Calling All Ambassadors...
"So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ."
2 Cor 5:20-21
Every nation and government worth its salt has an Ambassador. In the case of the United States, our Ambassadors are appointed only by the President and then confirmed by the Senate. We have some 195 Ambassadors at present.
What is an Ambassador? Well, that person is hand-picked to represent all the power and influence of our country at the behest of the President and the United States of America. It's a big responsibility and as you know those chosen are respected as speaking for the President in their assigned duty to a given country or foreign power. In many respects, the Ambassador is the link to America for the world's governments.
Knowing this I wanted to take this occasion and unpack the verse above. We the people of God, are "Christ's ambassadors." We represent to this world our home country the Kingdom of Heaven. We are the world's link to the truth of the Kingdom of God. Through God's gift of the Holy Spirit, we have access to all the power of Heaven and every tool we could ever need to accomplish our appointment to a world that is hostile to God.
You see we are as Christ said...
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." Matthew 5:13
Let me illustrate, my understanding is that when the explorers set out to new worlds they desired to bring meat to consume on the trip. As a result, how could they given the constraints of no refrigeration? I learned that they used a tried and true method of preserving the meat by using salt.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that if one sets meat out in the heat, a great source of protein will rapidly degenerate into a rancid source of illness if consumed. The salt was the difference maker. It kept the rapid growth of bacteria at bay, dehydrated the meat, and made it palatable by providing flavor. However, if it were to lose its saltiness properties so would its effectiveness to preserve quickly diminish.
Are you picking up what I'm laying down? That's us, Believer! We are the supernatural salt. If it weren't for our presence on earth, to be God's chosen vessels of truth and calling the lost to join the body of Believers, this earth would rapidly descend into the most violent, evil, corrupt, and cruel environment anyone could imagine.
We are God's Ambassadors on this planet. It's up to us to display the attributes of the citizens of Heaven, to demonstrate the love of God, and to allow Christ to make His appeal through us so that the lost find forgiveness in Him. All the while we are to have the perspective that this earth is not our home and that we are called to use all the weapons of Heaven to push back this present darkness until Christ comes again.
Speaking of Christ's coming, what is one of the tell-tell signs a nation does just before they go to war with another nation? They pull their Ambassadors from the country. What is God going to do just before He returns? He is going to pull His ambassadors. Then He will unleash the full might of Heaven against all His enemies and all will hear...
“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” Revelations 11:15
This is not a time to lose your saltiness my friend. We must not fail at our task, abandon the work of God, or lose sight of the purposes God has for each of us. For the sake of the lost and while there is still time, we must fight the evil that longs to keep them from ever knowing God, having peace with God, and being saved from an everlasting hell.
Until God comes again, by the grace of God let us be the salt, shine His light, and let us all finish the work of God so that someday we may all hear Christ our King say to us "Well done my good and faithful servant."
Calling all Ambassadors of Christ!.....
