What if You Could Live Forever?......

Is man meant to be eternal? Many a great man has believed this. Throughout the millennia they have exhausted great treasure, toil, and spared no imagination to discover its source and obtain it.

Yet life is cyclical for even the most ignorant of men to observe. New life is born, life exists, and then it dies only to decay. Every species of animal, plant, and human, experiences these constant states of being. So is it possible that the certainty of death is not the end but another beginning?

In light of death was man meant to be eternal? If so, what is it in man that could obtain such a status? For surely his body all observe is born of blood and dies. What is it then in man that could live forever?

My friend, it is that which is born of the spirit, our souls, that lives forever. The source of life eternal has been discovered! It's not wealth or fame. It's not a mountain of good deeds or a legacy of great power & dominion. It's not a secret potion, a disciplined regiment of physical fitness, a life of moral accomplishment, or something that can be purchased at great expense.

So what is the source of eternal life? The source is the God of the Bible. As the Creator, he created all of life to be eternal. However, the Bible says for many there is a second death.

"But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelations 21:8

The second death is what all men should fear. It is the knowing that once the life born of blood here on earth has ended a man's eternal soul born of the spirit can experience a second death which results in them being cast into a lake of fire separated from God for eternity. My friend life is eternal...

"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28

The fear being spoken of here is a healthy fear. This fear is like that innate understanding that when you feel the heat of a hot stove you should not rest your hand on it to allow it to burn. So is there a way to live eternal and escape "hell?" What must a man do to be saved?

Yes my friend, here is the secret to eternal life! "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me (Jesus). In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." John 14:1-3

Then Jesus continues by saying "You know the way to the place where I am going." John 14:4

Where is he going? -Heaven. What is the way He speaks of?

Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him." John 14:6-7

You see you can live forever! The way is not of your own doing but it's only through Christ. You can escape eternal hell but while you cannot purchase it, accessing eternal life came at a tremendous cost. Christ purchased our access to an eternity with a Holy God through His sacrifice on the cross.

Christ was born on earth for the purpose to make a way to reconcile man to a Holy God through the forgiveness of sin as a result of Him living a perfect life, dying for the sins of the world, and coming back to life 3 days later.

I hope you have concluded that man will live forever. That the soul of every man has a destiny. That the end of this life is not the end but the beginning of forever. That the source of eternal life, the way to eternal life, and life in Heaven with the Creator God is available to all who will turn from their sins and by faith make Christ the Lord of your present and eternal life.

God bless you and yours this Christmas!

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
